Whitmer Further Entrenched in Controversial Beydoun Grant, Lied to Taxpayers
Lansing, MI - For those of you who’ve wondered how Fay Beydoun got her hands on a $20 million grant (courtesy of taxpayers), we finally got an answer.
According to new reporting from the Detroit News, Governor Whitmer included funding for the controversial grant in her February 2022 state budget recommendation, just months after Beydoun hosted a fundraiser for Whitmer at her Farmington Hills home.
The reporting also confirmed the Whitmer Administration and MEDC Director Messer were aware the funding was intended for Beydoun, with Messer himself applauding Beydoun for being included in the Governor’s recommendation.
“Since day one, Governor Whitmer has denied culpability on this grant, but we now have indisputable confirmation that Whitmer herself was the ultimate architect. Whitmer wasted millions of taxpayer dollars to line the pockets of a campaign donor and lied to the public about this pay-to-play scheme for years. This new revelation underscores just how corrupt Lansing has become on Whitmer’s watch and the necessity for a top-to-bottom change in the MEDC and Governor’s office,” said Zach Rudat, Spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network.
