Gov. Whitmer, In the Leadership Meeting, With a Handout for a Donor

Lansing, MI - The clues are stacking up on the taxpayer-funded handout to Democrat powerbroker Fay Beydoun, and all signs point to Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Last night, the Detroit News broke incriminating news revealing that Governor Whitmer was the ultimate architect behind the controversial grant to Beydoun, despite years of finger-pointing at Republican legislators.

What started as a $15 million line item in her original budget recommendation was initially stripped by the Republican legislature at the time, but reemerged and evolved into a direct earmark in the final budget after a leadership meeting between Whitmer, former Speaker Wentworth, and former Senate Majority Leader Shirkey.

“Governor Whitmer was the creator, cheerleader, and closer on this taxpayer-funded handout to a top Democrat powerbroker and donor. Whitmer was the first in Lansing to propose it, the one who pushed it across the finish line, and the one who ultimately signed it into law. This jaw-dropping reporting confirms what everyone already suspected: this was Whitmer's idea all along, and she’s lied about it for years,” said Zach Rudat, Spokesperson for the Michigan Forward Network.

The reporting also confirmed that Beydoun hosted a fundraiser for Whitmer’s re-election campaign just months before the governor proposed the controversial grant.
