Whitmer Campaigns for Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet, Ignores Vacant SD 35
Lansing, MI - Good News: Governor Whitmer finally just acknowledged how politically competitive the Great Lakes Bay Region is. Bad News: She only wants the region to have a Democrat Congresswoman, but not a State Senator.
270,000 Michiganders from the region have been without a full voice in Lansing since former State Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet resigned to serve in Congress. Whitmer has refused to schedule a special election for the vacancy for over 200 days, desperately trying to protect Democrat control in Lansing.
But while Governor Whitmer ignores the vacancy for months on end, she has no trouble campaigning for the ladder-climbing Congresswoman who created it in the first place.
“No one is quite as transparent about their political calculations and thirst for power as Governor Whitmer. Whitmer is willing to undermine the interests of the people, and enable the career politician who abandoned her constituents when the political ends justify the means. Politics over people has and forever will be Whitmer’s North Star,” said Zach Rudat, Spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network.
