Speaker Matt Hall Unveils 2026 House Republican Priorities
Lansing, MI – Republican Speaker of the House Matt Hall has outlined his caucus’s priorities for 2026, focusing on the issues that matter most to taxpayers: government transparency, affordability, and cutting red tape.
Thanks to Governor Gretchen Whitmer and her Democrat allies, the price to live in Michigan is skyrocketing. From energy affordability to healthcare costs, Michiganders are struggling to make ends meet.
Speaker Hall wants to give Michigan residents some breathing room. His 2026 agenda includes property tax relief and healthcare reform, two top priorities for Michigan voters.
Hall also hopes to expand on Republicans’ 2025 success in making state government more transparent and accountable. Last year, the Hall Ethics, Accountability, and Transparency (HEAT) plan helped stop Democrat fraud and abuse, ensuring that legislators were accountable for the tax dollars they voted to spend. This year, Hall wants to expand the House’s legislative oversight, holding Democrats like Dana Nessel accountable for her ethics violations.
Finally, Hall hopes to tackle one of the biggest hurdles workers and job creators face in Michigan: red tape. Current licensing requirements can prevent Michiganders from entering or reentering the workforce. Between fees, tests, and permitting requirements, the State has only made it harder to live and work in Michigan.
“Speaker Hall is working on what matters to Michiganders,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “After two years of a Democrat trifecta, it’s become nearly impossible to live, work, and raise a family here in Michigan. House Republicans have been able to undo some of the damage caused by Gretchen Whitmer, and we look forward to their continued success in 2026.”
