Michigan Unemployment Rises Again Under Whitmer

Lansing, MI – In May, Michigan’s unemployment rate rose to 5.1%, still well above the national unemployment rate of 4.3%. The state remains squarely near the bottom in national unemployment rankings, tied for 43rd with Connecticut, Delaware, and Illinois.

Notably, seven of the top 10 states are led by Republicans, while eight of the bottom 10 are Democrat-led. Sadly, it appears that Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s economic development, consisting of over-taxing Michiganders in order to give their money to major corporations, is not working.

“In nearly every metric, Michiganders are worse off under Gretchen Whitmer,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “Michigan’s unemployment rate is the perfect example of her failures. As long as her policies continue to make our economy worse, people will continue to seek opportunity elsewhere.”
