Speaker Hall Secures Republican Wins in Budget Negotiations

Lansing, MI – Today, Speaker of the Michigan House Matt Hall announced that a budget framework deal had been reached. The framework includes big wins for House Republicans, including avoiding tax increases, cutting the overall size of the budget, and maintaining the rainy day fund.

In contrast to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s executive recommendation, which would raise taxes and increase the budget to nearly $90 billion, the House Republican budget released this spring included tax relief and spending less taxpayer dollars.

“Once again, Speaker Matt Hall and House Republicans are keeping the promises they made to voters to cut costs and stop the waste, fraud, and abuse,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “While Gretchen Whitmer was vacationing in Europe, Matt Hall was in Michigan leading the charge for fiscal responsibility.”
