Michigan Democrats More Divided Than Ever
Lansing, MI – The Michigan Democrat Party is splitting at the seams. Last month, Governor Gretchen Whitmer made waves by vetoing nine union-backed bills passed under the Democrat trifecta, causing her allies in the Legislature to finally turn their backs on her, but that was only the beginning. The closing of abortion clinics in Michigan made even more Democrats break faith with the lame duck governor, calling her out on social media:
Now, her approval rating among other Democrats has tanked, dropping 17 points since April.
By the time Tuesday’s primary election rolled around, with radical Socialists on one side and pretend moderates on the other, the Democrat Party was already a powder keg rigged to explode. Leftist leaders have been forced to choose sides, some breaking with terrorist sympathizer Abdul El-Sayed, their nominee for U.S. Senate.
Congresswoman Hillary Scholten notably said leading up to the primary that she would not support El-Sayed, and only posted a meaningless platitude about “working together” on social media after his victory:
As El-Sayed campaigned on his platform that mostly consisted of pushing taxpayer-funded healthcare and hating Israel, sitting Democrat Attorney General Dana Nessel said she no longer felt safe attendingher own party’s convention in the wake of massive antisemitism:
However, some Democrats are getting on boardwith the new direction of the party. The radicalism of El-Sayed, Eli Savit, and Garlin Gilchrest was not enough to turn away Whitmer, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, or even Congresswoman Haley Stevens, who at one time even openly accusedEl-Sayed of antisemitism:
Despite telling voters for months that candidates like El-Sayed and Savit were too radical, some of these statewide Democrat leaders have now pledged their full support, ready to ignore his Socialist beliefs and antisemitic rhetoric.
“The Michigan Democrat Party is more fractured than ever,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “Sadly, very few Democrats have had the integrity to call out El-Sayed and disavow his rhetoric. We hope that candidates like Carol Glanville, Kevin Hertel, Jaime Churches, and Jim Haadsma will have the courage to disavow dangerous candidates like El-Sayed, but we won’t hold our breath.”
