Lansing Democrats Have Facemask Amnesia
Lansing, MI - Sometimes the irony in politics is so rich, you’d think it was made up if it wasn’t true.
Last week, Lansing Democrats introduced a plan to prosecute ICE agents for wearing masks on the job. This coincidentally comes from the same party that urged school mask mandates across Michigan and implemented a statewide facemask mandate with a $500 fine and criminal charges for violators.
House Democrats held a press conference to roll out the plan with some notable word selection, talking about “people and residents” instead of “citizens and taxpayers,” calling ICE agents “un-American,” and comparing ICE to the Gestapo.
“It looks like Democrats finally found their midterm message: Justice needs no masks, but your children do. Michigan voters spoke loud and clear in 2024: they want government at all levels to crack down on crime and illegal immigration. But Democrats are ignoring the will of the voters, using inflammatory rhetoric to vilify law enforcement who protect our communities,” said Zach Rudat, Spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network.
Speaker Matt Hall has confirmed the legislation is DOA in the Republican controlled State House. The legislation is co-sponsored by Representatives Reggie Miller, who serves in a Trump-won district, and Noah Arbit, who just a few years ago criticized comparing political opponents to Nazis.
