UAW Not Your Grandpa’s Union
interests, there’s a reason.
Today’s UAW membership is below 400,000, a far cry from the 1.5 million peak from decades ago, and less than a third of today’s members actually work in blue-collar jobs. With an influx of white-collar keyboard warriors and champagne socialists, the organized labor arm of the Democrat party has become far more interested in Gaza and ICE than in the best interests of Michigan’s working class.
Below are notable quotes from a recent Free Press article, highlighting the growing rift between white-collar and blue-collar members within the UAW.
“These higher education kids, you know, they’re high on ideals, they want this and that. People like me, we just want a job tomorrow,” said Brian Keller, a Stellantis inspector in Lansing and former UAW President candidate.
“Generally speaking, most manufacturing and autoworkers, they really don’t care about the geopolitical, social issues. Most of them don’t care about Gaza and Palestine. That’s not on their radar. What’s on their radar is keeping a roof over their head, food on their table, and providing food for their families,” said David Pillsbury, third generation UAW member.
“If Democrats are wondering why they’re hemorrhaging support among Michigan’s working class, look no further than the evolved UAW of today. Michigan Democrats and Shawn Fain have prioritized woke over workers and pursuing a Green New Deal agenda that’s in direct conflict with the interests of Michigan workers. Under Republican leadership, Michigan can become a booming state with more jobs, lower costs, and unlimited opportunities for a thriving middle class,” said Zach Rudat, Spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network.
House Republicans have championed legislation that would cut taxes and cut red tape in Michigan, bringing more jobs and opportunities to the Great Lakes State.
