It’s Crazy vs. Crazy in the Democrat Primaries

Lansing, MI – While much of the conversation regarding the Democrat primary races in Michigan this year has revolved around the progressive takeover of the Michigan Democrat Party, for many of these races, there is not a moderate option at all. The entire Party has set itself up for contests of Crazy vs. Crazy across Michigan.

Starting in the state Legislature, the contest for the 1st state Senate District is shaping up to be a progressive showdown. Former state Representative and Democrat Majority Leader Abraham Aiyash made his bones as one of the most progressive members of the Democrat caucus during their trifecta. While he is currently running on promises like a taxpayer-funded option for car insurance and rent controls, he made headlines in the state House for refusing to bring a resolution to the floor condemning the October 7th terrorist attack by Hamas.

While his opponent, Justin Onwenu, not to be outdone in this race to the far-left, is also backing “rent stabilization” and has thrown in policies that would raise water bills, is looking to “Trump-proof Michigan,” and wants government bureaucrats to decide prescription drug prices.

In Michigan’s 13th Congressional District, it is Progressive Crazy vs. Just Plain Crazy between state Representative Donovon McKinney and Congressman Shri Thanedar. McKinney is backed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) because he’s promoting a Green New Deal for Detroit and backs fully taxpayer-funded healthcare and housing. On the other hand, Thanedar wants to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and prosecute the agency’s law enforcement personnel. He’s also previously made headlines for abandoning more than 100 dogs that had been used for pharmaceutical testing in one of the laboratories he owns.

Of course, no one can forget the Democrats running for U.S. Senate. It has been described over and over again as a race between progressive Abdul El-Sayed and “moderate”  Congresswoman Haley Stevens, but in reality, Stevens is plenty progressive herself:

“It is time to recognize that there is no longer such a thing as a ‘moderate’ Democrat,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “Progressives and socialists have pulled the party so far to the left that every option is now Crazy versus Crazy.”
