Eli Savit Gets Caught Using Taxpayer Money for His Campaign

Lansing, MI – Yesterday, the Michigan Secretary of State’s office determined that Democrat-endorsed candidate for Michigan Attorney General Eli Savit was “potentially” in violation of Michigan Campaign finance law after using a government-provided vehicle and a taxpayer-funded gas card for his campaign.

Savit, the George Soros-backed Washtenaw County prosecutor, had been using his county-provided vehicle for months to travel and campaign. An investigation revealed that at least 21 uses of the taxpayer-funded gas card matched up with campaign events. Savit tried to defend his use of public resources by saying that the vehicle and funds were akin to personal property.

It is a violation of Michigan Campaign Finance law to use public resources to campaign, but Savit has a history of ignoring the law in favor of his far-left policies and progressive principles. As a county prosecutor, he unilaterally decided to stop the enforcement of certain crimes, including prostitution and the use of psychedelic mushrooms. When later asked about his radical policy choices in Washtenaw County, Savit tried to run from his own record.

Now, Savit and his campaign have 90 days to reach a resolution with the Secretary of State’s office on his campaign finance violation, or the matter will be referred to the Michigan Attorney General, an office he is seeking to hold, for civil or even criminal penalties.

“It is no surprise that a radical like Eli Savit felt he was above the law,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “His entire career as Washtenaw County Prosecutor has been spent trying to twist and bend the law to favor his far-left politics.”
