Michigan Ranked One of the Worst States, per U.S. News

Lansing, MI – This week, U.S. News & World Reportreleased its latest overall state rankings, a combination of multiple categories, including infrastructure, education, the economy, and crime. Under Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Michigan has fallen to a dismal 46th place – the lowest of any state in the Midwest.

Sadly, this report does not come as a surprise to people who have been following the policies of Whitmer. Michigan has fallen behind in most key metrics, including literacy, unemployment, and income growth. Over the last eight years, the governor has often made policy choices that are completely incompatible with successful state government, including repealing Right to Work, discarding the 3rd grade reading requirement, and passing a Green New Scam energy package that has made Michigan one of the least affordable states in the country.

In some of the categories that U.S. News looked at, Michigan ranked:

  • 43rd in Economy

  • 45th in Education

  • 42nd in Infrastructure

  • 33rd in Opportunity

  • 38th in Fiscal Stability

Time and again, Gretchen Whitmer has sided with unions and her insider allies over Michiganders, and these new, abysmal rankings are showing the consequences of her loyalties.

“The Gretchen Whitmer experiment is over,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “Progressive, anti-business policies do not work. Catering to activists and Lansing insiders over Michiganders does not work. The governor has run our state into the ground and the people of Michigan are paying the price.”
