ICYMI: Whitmer’s MPSC to Make Michiganders Pay More … Again
Lansing, MI – Last week, Consumers Energy asked the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) for yet another rate increase. In the last two years alone, the commission packed with Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s appointees has approved nine rate increases from Consumers, DTE Energy, and multiple municipal utilities, raising prices on Michiganders by hundreds of millions of dollars.
Included in those requests were increases of nearly $600 million for Consumers Energy and more than $200 million for DTE Energy.
37 states have cheaper energy bills than Michigan, as families across the state are already shouldering the costs of Gretchen Whitmer’s radical Green New Deal energy policies. Many of these rate hikes are coming on the heels of Lansing Democrats’ energy package from last term, forcing utilities to move to an expensive green energy standard, and taking away power from local cities and townships. In the end, taxpayers foot the bill.
“Gretchen Whitmer’s MPSC has never seen a rate hike they didn’t like,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “In the wake of her expensive, Green New Deal polices, Michiganders are already struggling to make ends meet – they shouldn’t have to keep paying for her radical agenda.”
