Gov. Whitmer’s Legacy Shadows Over Budget Negotiations

Lansing, MI - With Governor Whitmer in her final years of office, her legacy looms over state budget negotiations. Despite campaigning on “fix the damn roads” for years, Michigan roads are crumbling faster than they’re being fixed on Governor Whitmer’s watch.

House Republicans have a plan that would deliver on Whitmer’s broken promise, investing billions of dollars in local roads without raising taxes. But Senate Democrats are playing politics and obstructing progress, without offering a roads plan of their own.

“House Republicans have a plan to fix the damn roads without raising taxes, but Senate Democrats are stonewalling. Gretchen Whitmer is a lame-duck Governor who hasn't delivered on a foundational campaign promise. Whitmer faces a choice in her final years as Governor: partner with Republicans on a bipartisan common-sense roads plan, or leave office on a legacy of crumbling roads and broken promises,” said Zach Rudat, Spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network.
