Democrat U.S. Senate Candidate: “Defund the Police”

Lansing, MI – Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate Abdul El-Sayed has claimed that he never advocated for defunding the police. However, a new report shows that El-Sayed served on the board of a far-left activist organization that lobbied to abolish police.

The organization, called The Sunrise Movement, posted on X (formerly Twitter) with messages calling to “defund the f*cking police” and calling law enforcement ”fascist pigs” while El-Sayed was on the board. To make matters worse, they went beyond posting on social media. The group also organized training for activists so they could learn “tangible steps” towards defunding the police.

Where do Michigan Democrats like Denise Mentzer, Reggie Miller, and Kevin Hertel, who could share a ballot with El-Sayed, stand on his affiliation with this radical anti-cop organization?

This report comes after El-Sayed already came under fire for his violent rhetoric, saying earlier this year that Democrats needed to take Republicans “to the mud and choke them out.”

“Anyone who shows such disdain for law enforcement should not be representing Michigan in the U.S. Senate,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “Michiganders need a leader who will support police, not cut their funding, and Michigan Democrats must tell Michiganders whether they are okay or not with El-Sayed’s anti-cop beliefs.”
