Chedrick Greene Broke Campaign Finance Law, Says SOS
Lansing, MI – Yesterday, the Michigan Secretary of State’s (SOS) Bureau of Elections determined that Democrat Chedrick Greene violated Michigan Campaign Finance law by misusing taxpayer resources for a campaign advertisement.
The ad, which Greene has used to promote his campaign for the long-vacant 35th state Senate District special election, shows the candidate in his Saginaw Fire Department (SFD) turnout gear, in front of SFD firetrucks, and is even filmed in the firehouse. In January, Michigan Forward Network (MFN) filed a complaint against Greene’s campaign for using taxpayer-funded equipment and a public building for campaign purposes.
After months, the SOS completed its investigation, but gave Greene until September 2026 to contact the department.
“This advertisement never should have been produced,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “Public resources, especially those vital for first responders, should never be exploited by those seeking public office, and it should not take complaints like this to get Democrats like Chedrick Greene to play by the rules.”
