Whitmer-Appointed Energy Board Raises Rates… Again
Lansing, MI – The Governor Gretchen Whitmer-appointed members of the Michigan Public Services Commission (MPSC) voted to raise electric rates for customers again today – the second such increase this year. In February, the board approved a more than $240 million rate jump for DTE customers, and today, they followed suit with Consumers Energy, approving a $276 million increase.
Over the last 5 years, Whitmer’s MPSC has approved more than a billion dollars in increases for electricity rates alone, not including the staggering increases for natural gas. Unfortunately, this is only the beginning of the increases customers are going to see due to the governor’s radical energy agenda.
Whitmer’s 2023 Green New Deal is estimated to increase Michiganders’ costs by an average of $2,700 per year.
“Once again, Gretchen Whitmer’s handpicked appointees showed they have no regard for everyday Michiganders,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “This is what happens when Lansing Democrats are allowed to dictate energy policy in Michigan: prices go up and reliability goes down.”
