The Hypocrisy of Senate Democrats

Lansing, MI – Yesterday, The Midwesterner uncovered hypocrisy in the Democrat-controlled Senate. Last month, Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks forced out two Republican staffers for working for political organizations while also being employed by the Senate.

After looking through campaign spending reports, Democrat staffers have been doing the exact same thing. Two staffers for state Senator Mallory McMorrow have been paid thousands of dollars this year for work on McMorrow’s campaign for U.S. Senate while also working in her Senate office.

This report raises questions about the double standard under Winnie Brinks’s leadership and whether her pressure on Republican staffers to resign was truly about a conflict of interest or if it was simple political retribution.

“Is Winnie Brinks going to give Mallory McMorrow’s staff the same treatment she gave to Republicans?” asked Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “If she doesn’t, she’s targeted two people for purely partisan reasons.”
