Jocelyn Benson Hops on Board with High-Speed Rail

Lansing, MI – Last week, Michigan Secretary of State and Democrat candidate for governor Jocelyn Benson unveiled one of her campaign’s biggest priorities. It was not reinstating the third-grade reading standard to combat Michigan’s literacy crisis, or cutting government spending to save Michiganders money; it was high-speed rail, a multibillion-dollar infrastructure boondoggle.

Despite watching California waste untold taxpayer dollars on its do-nothing high-speed rail project, Benson is still happy to jump on board and promote the same policy train wreck here in Michigan:

Ironically, the infrastructure Michigan currently has is already in a sorry state. According to the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, Michigan is in the top 10 for having “structurally deficient bridges,” with hundreds in desperate need of repair. To make matters worse, even after years of promises from Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Michigan still has plenty of roads that need fixing:

“Jocelyn Benson watched California waste two decades and billions of dollars to fail at building high-speed rail and said ‘sign me up,’” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “Instead of funding our own high-speed rail disaster, Michigan needs to focus on fixing the crumbling infrastructure we already have.”
