House Republicans Continue to Fight for a Responsible Budget
Lansing, MI – As the July 1 budget deadline looms, the House Republican caucus remains the only party that has passed a responsible, balanced budget. Despite a projected revenue shortfall, both the executive recommendation from Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Senate Democrat budget include increased spending.
House Republicans, led by Speaker Matt Hall, passed a budget months ago in April, and it includes massive wins for the people of Michigan. For starters, instead of the massive budget increases proposed by Lansing Democrats, the Republican budget cuts spending by billions of dollars. In spite of the cuts, the budget still maintains funding for the priorities that will help the people of Michigan, including:
Boosting funding for last year’s Republican-led roads plan.
$1.2 billion for Medicaid.
Record per-pupil school funding.
More money for police and public safety.
Filling the rainy-day fund.
“For months, House Republicans have been fighting for fiscal responsibility and Michiganders’ top priorities,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “As the July 1st deadline approaches, it is Speaker Matt Hall’s caucus that’s put in the work on the budget.”
