Michigan Losing a Person per Hour Under Gretchen Whitmer

Lansing, MI – A new report analyzing Internal Revenue Service (IRS) data from 2022 shows that Michigan lost an average of one person per hour.

The data shows a predictable trend of people fleeing Democrat-run states for better-managed Republican states, like Florida and Texas. Michigan ended up 43rd overall, as people fled states like California, Oregon, Illinois, and New York even faster. This massive population loss under Governor Gretchen Whitmer is estimated to cause more than a $100 million drop in state revenue – money that could be used for schools, roads, or tax relief.

Today, when asked what grade she would give herself for the jobs she’s done making Michigan a place people want to live and work, she said she would give herself an “A.”

“When people are looking for a place to live, work, and raise a family, they’re not choosing Michigan, and Gretchen Whitmer has no one to blame but herself,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “She prevented income tax relief, vetoed education scholarships, and passed a radical Green New Deal that will raise the average Michigan resident’s energy bill by $2,700 a year, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise when people look for somewhere else to live.”
