MI 07 Debate: William Lawrence Waffles on His Own Record

Lansing, MI – Today, Democrat candidate for the Michigan 7th Congressional District and avid socialist William Lawrence took the stage to debate Congressman Tom Barrett, and Lawrence’s radical record was on full display. Previously, Lawrence has come under fire for his calls to defund the police, abolish prisons, and open the border, and today he tried to dance around those positions:

Lawrence also continued his crusade for a massive socialist healthcare scheme, neglecting to mention the cost or the consequences:

Until August of this year, Lawrence was a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America, whose platform includes policies like creating a “classless society,” establishing government ownership of businesses, getting rid of landlords, and abolishing “the police and prison system which protects the rich and jails the poor.” He let his membership lapse shortly after winning his primary election.

“William Lawrence spent two decades spewing absurd, anti-American garbage and now he’s trying to pretend he didn’t,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “He has one final month to undo a lifetime of terrible socialist messaging in an effort to trick Michiganders into believing he’s anything other than a crazy person.”
