Benson: Offering Four More Years of Failure
Lansing, MI – Tonight, Michigan Secretary of State and Democrat candidate for governor Jocelyn Benson faced Congressman John James in this year’s first debate between statewide candidates.
Early on, Benson faced yet another question she struggled to answer about taxes:
This is not the first time Benson has struggled with a tax question. Earlier in the campaign, Benson admitted she did not even know the personal income tax rate before committing to equity reforms:
Benson also doubled down on Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Green New Scam energy package, which will raise costs on Michigan families by an estimated $2,700 per year:
Whitmer herself recently came under fire for her comments attacking local control, saying “we’re used to people saying now and doing it anyway.” Later on, Benson failed to conjure a single policy she disagreed with the governor on:
“It is tough to stand on stage and defend a record like Jocelyn Benson’s, and she decided to make her job harder by choosing to also defend Gretchen Whitmer’s,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “Michigan is failing in almost every single category, and tonight Benson said, ‘sign us up for four more years of failure.’”
