MFN: Decline to Sign Misleading Ballot Proposal

Lansing, Mich. – The activist organization behind the so-called “Invest in MI Kids” ballot petition has been sent a cease-and-desist letter for falsely claiming that their petition’s language has been approved by the State Board of Canvassers.

The petition’s fine print, which must be summarized in 100 words, reveals what Lansing Democrats and their activist allies do not want people to know: it is not about helping kids — it is about hiking taxes on Michigan families and small businesses.

The cease-and-desist letter warns organizers that the petition is legally defective, misleading, and would deceive voters if circulated. The petition summary, while originally approved, was rescinded by the Board of Canvassers after complaints that the language was biased.

This is just the latest example of Democrats’ backwards economic agenda: promise the world, quietly push for higher taxes, and leave Michigan families footing the bill. From handouts to political allies to Green New Deal mandates that drive up energy costs, Lansing Democrats continue to prioritize special interests over working families.

“This petition is dishonest from top to bottom. It taxes small businesses and residents across Michigan to a point of crippling our state’s economic competitiveness with no guarantee that resources will support students,’” said Michigan Forward spokesperson Mary Drabik. “ This ballot proposal is a scam designed to pick-pocket from hardworking Michiganders. Michigan families deserve transparency, not another tax hike in disguise. Michigan Forward Network urges Michiganders not to sign this proposal.”
