ICYMI: Abdul El-Sayed Attacks Breast Cancer Awareness

Lansing, MI – Last week, a bombshell report came out that unearthed Michigan Democrat nominee for U.S. Senate Abdul El-Sayed's past comments, or rather, complaints, about funding for breast cancer awareness. In a 2012 essay titled “The Pink Ribbon Lobby and Everyone Else,” El-Sayed called the awareness funding “disturbing” and said that the funding prioritized people with privilege:

This is not the first time El-Sayed has come under scrutiny for alleged sexism. In 2019, his name came up repeatedly in a lawsuit by eight women who worked with him at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. They made accusations of sexism and ageism in the workplace.

“Anyone who doesn’t think breast cancer should be a priority has no business making public health decisions,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “El-Sayed’s comments – especially as he pretends to be a physician – are disgusting, and he is the perfect example of why a government takeover of healthcare is so dangerous.”
