The Difference Could Not Be Clearer at the Filing Deadline
Lansing, MI – Yesterday was the filing deadline for candidates in Michigan, and the difference in quality between Republicans and Democrats could not be clearer.
The 27th state House District will feature a rematch between former Democrat Representative Jaime Churches and current Republican Representative Rylee Linting. Churches was ousted in 2024 after supporting policies like Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Green New Deal – which is causing energy prices to skyrocket – and repealing Michigan’s 3rd-grade reading standard.
By contrast, Linting has used her time in office to introduce legislation that cracks down on criminals running from the police and pass tax relief, such as no tax on tips or social security.
In a Michigan Senate matchup, Democrat Representative Carol Glanville will be on the ballot to run against Republican state Senator Mark Huizenga. Glanville has spent her time in the Michigan House supporting laws that allow boys to play in girls' sports, while Huizenga introduced legislation to keep Michigan kids safe from chemicals like PFAS.
In another rematch, 2024 loser Jim Haadsma is trying to reclaim his seat from current state Representative Steve Frisbie. Haadsma voted to gut A-F grading for Michigan schools and supported legislation that will keep business out of Michigan. Frisbie worked on legislation to finally fix Michigan’s crumbling roads.
“The Democrats have obviously not learned their lesson,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “Michiganders don’t need more out-of-touch, radical activists in Lansing. They need leaders who will focus on the issues that matter, and that will work to make Michigan a better place to live, work, and raise a family.”
