Michigan Loses Thousands of Jobs in January

Lansing, MI – A new report shows that Michigan is second in the country in an important category – job cuts. The Challenger Report has Michigan second only to Georgia in jobs lost in January. Rounding out the bottom five are California, Washington, and New York.

With more than 19,000 jobs lost last month, Michigan alone accounts for nearly 20% of the entire country’s losses. Almost 50% of the losses can be attributed to the Democrat-run states at the bottom.

Notably, multiple Republican-led states, including Mississippi, Arkansas, and New Hampshire, posted zero job cuts in January. Forty-five out of all 50 states lost fewer than 2,000 jobs.

“Democrats are already trying to spin these numbers and deflect from their own failed policies,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “Every new report on jobs has the same suspects at the bottom. These are the consequences of Gretchen Whitmer’s far-left, tax-and-spend policies: real jobs lost for thousands of hard-working Michiganders.”
