Michigan Families Fall Behind Under Whitmer’s Leadership
Lansing, MI – A new report shows that Michigan households are lagging behind the rest of the country in income. Among all states, Michigan ranked 37th in median household income, with households bringing in more than $10,000 less than the national average.
Even worse, Michigan is not growing at the rate other states are. Over the last decade, Michigan’s real household income has grown 25% slower than the national average, meaning Michigan is falling into poverty compared to the rest of the country.
Unsurprisingly, Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s plan to give out billions of dollars to major corporations and hope that they create jobs has not been working. In fact, only 1 in 11 jobs promised by corporate welfare programs in Michigan have actually been created.
“Gretchen Whitmer has had seven years to improve Michigan’s economy,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “Unfortunately, her agenda has never had Michigan families in mind. Instead of lowering taxes, cutting red tape, and investing in Michigan families, she chose instead to give billions of dollars to Michigan’s biggest corporations.”
