Michigan Democrats Capitulate to Radical Socialists

Lansing, MI – Last week, Michigan House Democrats largely voted no on a resolution to condemn Socialism and its dangerous, catastrophic policies. House Republicans brought the resolution to the floor in the wake of growing support among the far-Left for the radical ideology, but when it came time to vote, dozens of Democrats said no:

This resolution also comes as some Democrats have been courting the progressive Socialist vote, while publicly trying to distance themselves from the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). William Lawrence, the Democrat nominee for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, for example, was a card-carrying member of the DSA until he suspiciously let his membership lapse shortly after his victory in the Democrat primary.

Similarly, Democrat nominee for U.S. Senate Abdul El-Sayed tried to distance himself from the DSA, only for a report to show that he frequented the group's events and was even the keynote speaker at a DSA fundraiser.

The current DSA platform includes priorities like creating a “classless society,” establishing government ownership of businesses, getting rid of landlords, and abolishing “the police and prison system which protects the rich and jails the poor.”

“If they walk like socialists and talk like socialists, they’re socialists,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “Unlike Abdul El-Sayed, William Lawrence, and apparently Michigan House Democrats, Michiganders happen to enjoy living in a society with police officers, borders, and businesses that aren’t wholly controlled by the government.”
