ICYMI: Ronna McDaniel: Whitmer Has Lost Her Grip on Lansing
Lansing, MI - Last week, Michigan Forward Network CEO Ronna McDaniel penned an op-ed for The Detroit News blasting Governor Gretchen Whitmer. She details how the governor has lost her grip on Lansing and how far her influence has fallen:
“Whitmer has said for months that she wants a roads plan and that the budget cannot get done without one. Senate Democrats have shrugged her off and very few House Democrats are defending her.
“Hundreds of thousands of voters were left without a voice, the MEDC appears to be on the verge of collapse, and the legislature is no closer to sending her a budget than they were months ago. She and her leadership are still nowhere to be found.
“Today, she looks like a bystander to her own government, unable to move her party, absent from the debates that matter, and increasingly out of touch with the Capitol she used to command.
Notably, Whitmer traveled to Japan and Singapore amidst tense budget gridlock in Lansing, and added a stint in Germany last week. Included in her entourage was Michigan Economic Development Corporation CEO Quentin Messer, who is a “potential target” in the Attorney General’s investigation into the $20 million grant awarded to Fay Beydoun:
“To make matters worse for Whitmer, her attorney general is now investigating her CEO of economic development. There have been failures at every level of the MEDC. Millions of dollars were given to one of Whitmer’s biggest political allies by the Legislature. Despite the subpoenas, investigations, and constant reports of potential wrongdoing, we’ve received nothing from the governor.”
