Benson’s Father-in-Law Rakes in Millions from Green New Deal

Lansing, MI – A report yesterday from the Michigan Enjoyer shows that Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s father-in-law has raked in millions of dollars thanks to Democrats’ Green New Deal policies.

Benson’s father-in-law, David Freiderichs, owns a solar panel installation company in Washtenaw County that has received more than $5 million in government grants for solar projects, including funding from the Michigan Public Services Commission (MPSC). Friederichs’s company is also listed as a contributor to Michigan’s “Healthy Climate Plan,” which was created by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2022 as part of her radical energy agenda.

Notably, at the same time the MPSC was giving out grants to Friedrichs to build out solar panels in Michigan, the commission was also approving millions in rate hikes for gas and electric utility customers. 

“Jocelyn Benson’s priorities seem to miraculously line up with policies that will make her husband and her father-in-law lots of money,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for the Michigan Forward Network. “Michiganders can’t afford more of the same Democrat energy polices, and they definitely can’t afford to make Benson and her family richer.”
