Benson for Governor: A Year in Review

Lansing, MI – Today, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson marks the one-year anniversary of the (second) launch of her campaign for governor. To celebrate this milestone, here is a list of Benson’s ‘accomplishments’ over the last year:

  • A campaign kickoff on government property in violation of Michigan campaign finance law.

  • The launching of the Secretary of State’s $9 million transparency portal, which was such a disaster that the legislature took her department’s IT funding away.

  • A new lawsuit from four Black employees alleging that Benson’s department is a “racially hostile” work environment.

  • Massively over-inflating Michigan’s voter rolls, well past how many people are actually eligible to vote.

  • Winning the hard-earned endorsement of George Takei for … governor of Minnesota.

“Just like her tenure as Secretary of State, the first year of Jocelyn Benson’s gubernatorial campaign has been an unmitigated disaster,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “We eagerly look forward to this year’s ‘accomplishments.’”
